And I understand that too and am all for options - just don't think 1 model will work for everyone so would like to see the option left in to continue to use file manager if we want to.

Running Opencart v3.0.3.9 with multi-stores and the default template from https://www.labeshops.com which has links to all my stores.

Daniel made a post above that he's going to scrap the idea and stick with something very similar to what's in place now.

EDIT: just read last posts. Looks like my post is untimely.

JNeuhoff wrote:The ability to alternatively upload images via FTP is essential. There are many users maintaining the actual products and categories in Excel spreadsheets, uploaded via the Export/Import tool to the Opencart server. Therefore, there has to be an easy way to upload image files separately via FTP to a single, or at least easy to find, server folder. So I think this excludes the usage of timestamp folders like wordpress does!

If implementing support for sub-folders (e.g. for image categories) is too cumbersome, then your suggestion of using some sort of searchable image attributes or tags will be the only other reasonable option.
it might be easier with the new system as you can just map the excel spreadsheet value to the image table and image location.

let me see what i can do. i might be able to allow people which folders they can store files in but it won't allow renaming of files or moving them.
I agree with JNeuhoff. I use two different directories and I just need to keep those in the straight in the excel spreadsheet then I just FTP all my 3000+ images into those directories. Easy, simple and as it needs to be. I don't need any complications of adding images. Also there are times when I move the product from one folder to the other as the products get outdated but still needed the images for comparison and archival purposes.

I've never used the, rename, move or copy options in the file manager. I think its a great idea to remove them. All you would need is a client to move a folder of images and then not know what has happened to their site.
I think multi upload would be very useful, I currently do this with a mod. I think to add a way for deleted product to auto remove the related file/s would be great in terms of keeping the site clean over a long pariod of time.
