No images in image manager... I need help =(

Hello! I'm really new to OpenCart, I just started using it a few days ago. Everything was fine until today. Suddenly, I can't upload images at the upload manager. Permessions for image folder is 777, however, if I create a new folder there, it's 755
How can I fix this problem? I'm not sure about the version, I think i'm using 1.5.x
Edit:
Command: SITE CHMOD 0755 image
Response: 550 CHMOD 0755 image: No such file or directory

I previously had this issue and whilst i tried clearing the cache and permissions, it did not seem to make a difference. i uploaded photos and it said the the photos had been successfully uploaded but they would not appear.
I sort of cheated a little, i no longer use the images folder. i created subfolders for my products and uploaded them into those and they appeared. Have you tried doing this ?

try changing the cache folder permission

Found my solution here:

I renamed image/cache/data/ folder and refreshed
