Setting up Multistore on Dreamhost

I cant get this to work, the instructions provided doesnt make much sense to me but i have followed them to no avail.

This is what i have done so far:

Set up a subdomain - subdomain.domain.com
Made sure it was pointed to the directory that opencart is installed in - home/user/domain.com
Set up a new store in opencart admin and set Store URL to http://subdomain.domain.com and saved.

When i go to http://subdomain.domain.com it shows the default store and not the new store.

What am i doing wrong? Any ideas?

new store url should be http://subdomain.domain.com/ the trailing slash is very important.
