Newbie.. searched, got lost..

Hello,
New to opencart.. can someone help and supply a URL or how-To on creating a simple, basic advertising Mod for Opencart 1.4.9. I understand the structure, but if someone has a freebie to share... I can learn off that..

All I need is a module to be either left or right, to post advertising for some companys (display thier logo and web URL)
basically add html or javascripts

Simple HTML module is worth a look
