Like many other folks, I find OpenCart easier to work with than Zen Cart. I haven't made the transition to OpenCart on a live shop yet, as I miss the one inbuilt feature of Zen Cart, the shipping estimator on the cart page. I think that all carts need to show the potential customer what the shipping charges are, before they are obliged to start filling out order forms.
I always focus on shops from the buyers perpective and features that are of real practical benefit to them when shopping on a site.

More the fact that Zen Cart still haven't released their new version in over two years now, osCommerce seems to have stopped moving forward altogether, Prestashop only appears to work with some versions of mysql (great only if you own the hosting), Magento from everything I have read about it seems to consume a lot of resources, which is not good for shared hosting, plus there are other carts that won't work with php 5.3 due to deprecated functions.Maansy wrote:You mean pants wetter design
If all the above doesn't present the ideal time for OpenCart to become 'King of the hill' then I don't know what will.

Reason: OS Commerce = osCommerce
Reason: OS Commerce = osCommerce
I host hundreds of carts on both US and UK servers, but will not allow any Magento, for just that reason. Have many others, but tell someone with Magento to look elsewhere.CUSTOM_UK wrote:Magento from everything I have read about it seems to consume a lot of resources, which is not good for shared hosting

Thanks for 1.5!
Daniel,
Any chance of having a dependent drop down lists like this --> clicky
I would love to see something like this and have the ability to add dependent drop down lists for each product on my site.
At the moment I am running this mod, someone on here did for me --> clicky It changes the image when an option is selected, (much like Q's Options Plus add-on) and also adds an optional description field which I can add HTML into, like the table or a PDF file link specific to that model.
Ideally I would like to know if it's possible to have the Make --> Model --> Year and then once year is selected for it to change the Main Image and also the images in the 'Additional Images' tab and to have that table, in the 'Description' area.
Regards
Con

I think what you are looking for will most likely always stay as a custom mod job as it's rather complex coding and really only useful for a few stores. I certainly wouldn't want to see a delay in 1.5.0 for that functionality.cpsarros wrote:Daniel,

Hi Daniel and rest of development team. Do you have an idea as to when 1.5.0 is going to be released? i know 1.4.9 has just come up but im holding back to 1.5.0 as alot of features in the roadmap i need.
the last one i wanted/need is ability to add/create an order in admin and also edit customer order. i have sen alot of talk about this and some people say that it will stay as a seperate commercial module or built-in to OC. any updates?
thanks again

The Order Edit is there in 1.4.9, to also create an order from the BO use the Master Password Override mod.DannyMacD wrote:Daniel wrote:1.5 will probably be released late August. I hope everybody can wait.

I think that 1.5.0 will not be out until end September and it will then still take a while before it is usable in live production.
The 1.4.9 is the most stable and complete version up until now and ready for what you want/need.

LOL. First of all thank you Q and everybody else involved for the hard work on 1.4.9. It is a nice update. As I have said before OC is the best cart free or paid - no question and everything you do makes it better.
But sorry Q, as with the point that went unanswered elsewhere in this forum just yesterday Daniel stated in the first post in this thread that 1.5.0 would be available late August. You said yesterday that it hadn't even been started and that you were not aware of any deadline.
He also said elsewhere that there would be no core changes in 1.5.0 just great new features, but it has been stated that there will be big core changes...... So perhaps we can be excused at being a little confused. Very happy with all that you do and have done but still a little confused......

I know my place...!
The dates are always subject to change. Daniel's broken arm didn't help (tho it doesn't seem to have slowed him down too much as he's got a few things done already.
The initial roadmap is here. It is also subject to change.

As 1.4.9 just came out and it was delayed by about a month, so it is safe to say that 1.5.0 is a "ways" out. I was the point man on 1.4.7, 1.4.8, and 1.4.9. Daniel will be on point more for 1.5.0. This is where we will have more new features that haven't been covered.
There are other discussions to cleanup code a bit and possibly change the templates a bit to make them more like "templates".
Also some features for batch edit/add from the listviews, and a redesigned checkout process.
So the idea of a "core" change is not black and white.
Still, don't be so focused on "Whats next". Too many people get into that rut and it will prevent us from publicly announcing any new features, just to keep the masses from losing their head. The developers and the community have worked hard on 1.4.9 to be the most stable version, and so far there have been no mentionable bugs reported (knocks on wood). You are an entrepreneur looking to run an online business and make money. You likely aren't paid to be a professional "version-waiter".
If you are a webdeveloper and looking to build stores for clients, then you need to lockdown on one stable version. v1.4.9 would be the best candidate. 1.5.0 will be new and those changes are subject to their own bugs so it make take a few versions for that to be stable.
