Great support, will actively search for solutions and not just point the issue towards the script(s) you use.

Avoid:
Trans-ip, will blame the script when issues found and their statement will be: We do not support third party scripts.

For UK based hosting, I have found catalyst2 to be one of the better offerings for low priced hosting.

One to definitely avoid is Apthost. One of their employees put malicious code on their servers, which they stated on their own site. Sadly they didn't do a good job of cleaning it off and all the sites simply became re-infected again.

Magmahost were good until they were taken over by Yomura, then it all fell apart.
