Hi everyone,

I’ve been testing my OpenCart store on different devices, and I noticed that the shopping experience on iPhones can feel a bit different compared to Android or desktop. Things like page load speed, checkout flow, and even how some third-party extensions display seem to vary.

For those of you who also get a lot of traffic from iPhone users, what adjustments (themes, extensions, or custom tweaks) have you found most helpful to improve usability and conversions on iOS devices?

Do you usually rely on responsive themes alone, or have you made additional optimizations specifically for Safari/iOS? I’d love to hear real-world experiences or recommendations so I can make sure my store runs smoothly for iPhone customers.

Do provide us link to your store here, also the opencart version and theme being used.

I’ve run into the same thing with OpenCart stores — the iOS experience can feel slightly off compared to Android or desktop, mostly because Safari handles some scripts and CSS differently. Responsive themes are a good baseline, but for iPhone-heavy traffic, a few extra steps usually make a big difference.

Some adjustments that have worked well:

Lightweight, mobile-first theme → Pick a theme that prioritizes fast loading and clean mobile navigation. Some themes look fine responsively but load a lot of unnecessary assets.

Optimize checkout flow → iPhone users tend to prefer simplified, one-page checkout layouts. Reducing form fields and ensuring Apple Pay integration helps with conversions.

Test extensions carefully → Not all third-party extensions render the same way in Safari. I usually test them on real iPhones before going live, since emulators don’t always catch small UI bugs.

Page speed improvements → Compress images, enable caching/CDN, and reduce heavy scripts. Safari can be less forgiving with large JS bundles.

Touch-friendly design → Make sure buttons, menus, and dropdowns are easy to tap — iOS users are quick to bounce if navigation feels cramped.

In my experience, responsive design covers most cases, but testing specifically on iPhones and making targeted fixes (checkout, payment options, button sizing) pays off the most in conversions.

If a particular javascript or CSS doesn't work in Safari then you should really approach the Safari browser support team to solve any particular issues. Web standards are there for a reason, and I am sorry to hear that iPhone have to bear the brunt. But we shouldn't go back to the old days where one particular browser didn't play by the rules.

If you believe there is a genuine CSS or javascript issue then you have to provide more details.

Export/Import Tool * SpamBot Buster * Unused Images Manager * Instant Option Price Calculator * Number Option * Google Tag Manager * Survey Plus * OpenTwig

I run an OC 3.0.3.8 shop, iPhone conversions lagged until we trimmed scripts and switched to a lighter, mobile first theme. One page checkout with Apple Pay was the biggest boost. Also set inputmode for phone/postcode, disabled email autocapitalize, and kept fonts 16px+ to stop Safari zoom.

Fixed 100vh jumps with 100svh/100dvh and safe‑area insets, added webkit overflow scrolling to side carts, and used native lazy loading with WebP fallback. Test on real iPhones, emulators missed our dropdown bug.
