Recently, SendGrid discontinued their free tier which I previously used with my store.
In researching viable options with a free tier that was generous enough for real world use, I found SMTP2Go and am quite pleased with the service. It was easy to setup and worked immediately by following their guide although dated... the instructions still work for newer versions of Opencart. See here. https://www.smtp2go.com/setupguide/opencart/
For those looking to replace SendGrid or similar services, SMTP2Go is a solid replacement.

I have been using Zoho Mail for free for a few years. Yet another good alternative.tdaubss wrote: ↑

Thanks for sharing this — super helpful!
I was in the same boat after SendGrid dropped their free tier, and finding a reliable alternative that actually works with platforms like OpenCart (without jumping through hoops) has been a bit of a pain. Good to know SMTP2Go still offers a usable free plan and that their OpenCart guide holds up, even if it's a little outdated. Always a win when things "just work" after setup!
Appreciate the link too — definitely bookmarking it for future projects.
