My guess is that that is how your phone stores the images and states in the exif data that it is infact portrait.
That is also how you upload it.
Any program which takes the exif data into account would then display it in portrait.
However, OC does not read that exif data and as such displays it as is uploaded.

even if you didnt resize and just compressed it is 3MB to 446kb
