This post is regarding the free Export/Import Tool extension from JNeuhoff. First, thanks to JNeuhoff for providing the software free. Installation was quick and simple. And I'm a newbie to OpenCart.

I've been struggling to get the tool to import a large, computer-generated XLS-from-CSV Products worksheet with no success. I used Excel to convert the CSV file to XLS, so that should not be an issue. I did the initial export to get the field names (column headers) as instructed and insured mine was an exact match.

I think I have found the problem but would like it confirmed. Apparently, the import file (XLS, XLSX, or ODS) must contain ALL of the worksheets, and ALL of the columns of ALL the worksheets. If true, it would have been nice to know on the front end. Would like to know for sure, tho. Would also be nice to know which fields are required.

Might just be my ignorance, but It's not clear whether "worksheet names" refers to the column headings, or the titles of the worksheets. In my case, where I only have the Products worksheet, a message indicating not all of the required worksheets are present would be more accurate.

This tool is probably best used as it was intended, Export, change, Import. That's probably okay for small sites, but for large sites with thousands of products and mass updates from multiple vendor supplied pricing and other update sources, maybe not. It may also make a pretty good backup tool.

My problem. Like the error message says, invalid worksheet name. The worksheet name was coming from the csv filename. When I changed the csv file name to Products.csv, it changed the worksheet name to Products. So, past that problem.

New problem: I'm using our part numbers as the product_id. Our part numbers contain numbers, letters, and dashes.
Now receiving the following error message: Export/Import: Invalid product_id '02291-X2' used in worksheet 'Products'!

Can I force it to accept non numeric product_id?

Thanks!

First of all, don't use MSExcel, use LibreOffice Calc.

And it looks like you are using a supplier's CSV datafeed which probably uses its own format, so it might be a good idea to have some writing up a simple CSV import for your datafeed.

Export/Import Tool * SpamBot Buster * Unused Images Manager * Instant Option Price Calculator * Number Option * Google Tag Manager * Survey Plus * OpenTwig

The CSV file is created by a VB6 program I wrote using our data files. The header record (1st record with column titles) matches the exported file exactly. Apparently the Export/Import tool likes it, as it has moved on to a new error.

I'm now receiving: Export/Import: Invalid product_id 'WLF-814554-R-X2' used in worksheet 'Products'!

I'm guessing the product_id needs to be numeric? I hope not because our part numbers are a mix of numbers, letters, and dashes. If I have to use a numeric product_id, I'll have to create a cross-reference to the actual part numbers.

Hoping there is a property or attribute some where that controls this.

Does OpenCart required the product_id to be numeric?

Yes
However, Opencart has model number and has many other fields that you could use to allow for your id without messing with Opencart structure

May I suggest that you do as you originally realised - export a demo FROM opencart first so you can look at it
May I also suggest that if you have such a large number of products it might be worth investing in custom work (from JNeuhoff)
