I can see the child.name in the template but i think the logic isnt recognizing that it s a child category.
I also have this same issue on a new install of ver 4.0.2.3 - breadcrumb not correct and no sub-category description showing.
This problem was raised on github.com under thread "subcategories data not showing #1377" url - https://github.com/opencart/opencart/issues/13777 earlier this year with others having the same problem, the thread was then marked closed/completed but no fix seems to have been published (to my knowledge).
Does anyone have any further progress on this?

As far as I know it was fixed in the OC master branch, that's where all the bugfixes.
