i am going round and round in circles searching for this, i am obviously missing something really obvious :-(
i have set up categories and products, just a few to test opencart, but i can't find any way of adding the categories to the home page.
I tried the Featured Module but that only gave me a few of the products to choose from and no categories.
This forum is very difficult to search, i either put too few words, too common words or too many words. Searching for homepage categories gave so many pages of results it too ages to go through.
I ended up searching on Google instead which was a bit better but all the results were amending the .twig or similar, surely this is something opencart does out the box.
1. Version 3.0.3.9
2. Default
3. Antropy Subcategory Images and Removecommentspayment
4.?
5. ?
6. Firefox
Currently in maintenance mode as have not managed to set up square payments yet.

You could add the Category module to the home layout, but it's just a simple text list. For something better looking you would have to customise your own module or look for an extension.

Still nothing relevant, i assume you suggested that search term because you think there are some posts which help.
Am i asking for something that is not how these carts work?
What do other people put on their home page?

OpenCart already has a categories menu in its header. What else exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Export/Import Tool * SpamBot Buster * Unused Images Manager * Instant Option Price Calculator * Number Option * Google Tag Manager * Survey Plus * OpenTwig

I think i am trying to make it look similar to our current hand coded site (www.craft-kits.co.uk). So the home page has a picture and a few details about each category, you then click the pictures to go into each category to refine further.
Yes the navbar has that info, along with the category which we have put on the left had side, but the rest of the home page is blank.
I have found "featured" and "latest" but those only allow a product to be added not a category.
What does everyone else have on their homepage?

have you searched the marketplace for 'megamenu'? E.g. something like in this website.

Export/Import Tool * SpamBot Buster * Unused Images Manager * Instant Option Price Calculator * Number Option * Google Tag Manager * Survey Plus * OpenTwig

Which bit is the megamenu? it still appears to have products on the top half of the page.

Megamenu is an extension for Opencart which gives extra menu options and settings.

If you have a bit of Bootstrap knowledge you could easily manually create that layout.

Good thinking, my currently HTML sites are all bootstrap 3 which i believe opencart is, so that is a very good suggestion, thank you :-)
Still a bit miffed that it isn't an option straight out the box :-(

It would take me longer to create the invoice than do the job. Lol. The option is already there as you can use a content module.

With a bit of work and coffee you could easily make Opencart look like your current website. It would look similar but have modern ecommerce features.

Sorry not sure what you mean by "content module"? So the option to have the categories on the home page IS built in?

Again another good point, certainly something i will be looking at doing when i get the functionality all sorted, struggling to get square to work with it at the moment.

By content module I mean an HTML content module. You can add a categories extension or get the result you want by manually adding Bootstrap code to a content module. If you have some HTML, CSS and Bootstrap knowledge Opencart is a very powerful and flexible platform.

If you're not sure how to do it then post in the commercial support forum. It's not a big job. The OC pros and developers all have bills to pay and would appreciate the work. :)

and if i had a budget i would pay for mods etc. I have no budget at all except my time so will work it out for myself at some point. As i said, really, really can't believe others don't need this and it is not a normal option. I am just worried i am missing something obvious like i did with some other posts i have done :-)
I am completely self taught over the last 25 years and have hand coded 3 pretty big ecommerce websites for the family business, lately redesigning them using bootstrap. But now i am in my 60's the learning is not coming so easy.

Why am i getting so many obscure answers? What is a normal option? Categories on the home page? So am i missing something obvious? I am too old for riddles!
