People have the choice - to either use something that's free or not. It's uncharitable to say the least to decide not to use it and then criticise the product and/or the philosophy behind it. If you don't like it, just don't use it. If you think you have something better, OK, that's fine nobody's forcing you to stay here and as you probably haven't made any investment in it other than a bit of your time (which I would guess would be considerably less than the amount of time invested by the guys who are developing it), just go and quit carping.

Personally I am delighted to have come across OC when I did. I think it's already an outstanding product that gets better the whole time and I'm grateful to the guys who are spending their time working on it and doing something that I could never do, not in a million years.

So thanks and I look forward to seeing and using the goodies that you have for us down the line.

PS - why does the system keep logging me out after each post I do?? ???

Multi-store may have been one of them, who is actually using it? Who even understands it?

Documentation is totally lacking.

I talk it up all I can but constantly get shot down over the bug / fixes / versions. It does create a poor perception and the fact that there is no simple upgrade path and all mods / templates have to be changed with each new release certainly puts people off.

Thank you for your kind words over and over again.
Yes, and repeated often enough, they may sink in.

In another recent post the our foremost fellow, Q, mention he thought that at best 5% were using Multi-store.

And, if you have not noticed, few spend a lot of time digging in last week's or last month's subjects, so with so many new folks stopping by, it's always a good idea to keep things near the top.

NOW - for a true suggestion that should have been implemented from the first, that may cut down on some of the complaints - Put whatever is needed into each script that has it call home for the latest bulletin. I've been being warned for years that my 5 versions old CubeCart needs updating. Many other carts have that feature, as well.

It would have been nice to have been able to alert all users to the hack that was attacking the pdf editor here a couple of months ago.

The just recent lapse that allows someone to edit their PayPal payments so they can buy $1000 worth of goods for $0.01 should certainly have been broadcast to all users.

I have no idea how it's done, I simply know that demoing dozens of carts that many do have that feature, including free carts that never ask for any sort of registration. Why not in OpenCart?

well I don't think the whole paypal thing has even been properly addressed yet, but you are correct a feed in the admin section somewhere for that stuff would be nice. I could see something like that happen as the extension stuff gets expanded. I'd like for extensions to be installable from the admin like many programs do.

An update check is planned for 1.5.0
Hadn't planned on a notification option, but it could be done

True, I still do not see why OC has this. It should be an module or mod, but not in the core.

I'm not sure what you mean?

So true, a notification should be there.
It should have the option to confirm that you've read it, so after that only a new notification will show up.

In PrestaShop it just stays there and you have to edit the core to get rid of it, most people do and thus they miss new notifications.

Turning the mulit store into a module is just not going to happen. It would involve so much modding of the core when installing the store that it just wouldn't be worth doing

1.5 sounds great, I'm looking forward to new features.

As some of these features are complete, I think it would be a good to see this reflected in their status in the roadmap - perhaps not to complete as they aren't in the current release, but perhaps change them to In Progress.

The version notice, user alert, whatever it turns out to be does not have to be overwhelming. Some carts just have a line saying "Latest version is xx.xx.xx, you are running xx.xx.yy. My 3 year old CubeCart just has a little red box up near the top that says Updates Available.

Certainly not some knock you over popup that makes you want to go edit the files to get rid of it. (But Presta does sort of overdo things at times.)

Something other than what there is now - a weekly visit to the forum, or cross your fingers. :)

I have been looking at opencart since the 1.4.7 release. But do not have a shop in production at this point as I will be waiting for the 1.5.0 stable release before I will use it as a shop in production.

I must say you guys have done a great job on the OC! My only concern at this point is that their is no roadmap on the site showing how and when we can expect a version. Would be nice to see on the frontpage when the 1.5.0 versions should be completer the minor 1.5.x updates are not something I would place on the roadmap.

Is this something you could consider?

I imagine when it gets close they will post something. I believe 1.5.0 is still a ways out.

Stable and 1.5.0 are not words that go together. 1.4.9 will be the "stable" build and then 1.5.0 will be a mess of redesign and new features. It probably won't be stable till around 1.5.2ish Go with 1.4.8b and 1.4.9 will be only bug fixes on top of that.

Well, new releases sound always great as they make us think about new and cool features. Personally, I'm still running 1.4.7. Did not had time to upgrade to 1.4.8b yet. But I must confess that I'm a bit affraid too as the upgrade is not so simple. Have to backup this and that, upload (only) this and that... :-\
Question: I have my OC translated, will the upgrade to 1.4.8b keep the translation?

Finally, I've been through several free carts solutions and I must say, for me, OC is the best solution. However, please try to make OC more user friendly for those, like me, who don't have that amont of knowledge.

Keep on the good work and thanks a lot! ;)

i am hoping the Layered Navigation similar or the same of this and the product extra option or Global option add-on will be in the minor features.

Those aren't minor features so it's highly unlikely

well layered navigation is very easy to implement, you just have to buy it. It's a very easy install. And no it's no minor feature. It took lots of work to code that module.

Hey,
Could someone could add in a cookie to the jstree so it saves your location? I can't seem to figure out how to add it, and it's a very handy thing to have.
Thanks and looking forward to 1.5!

I'm wondering why you people are talking down on things like multi-store. Firstly, it's quite easy to implement just adding a domain alias and creating a "new store" in admin, everything else is automatic you don't really need documentation, just look at the options in admin...

Also on this subject, why are you guys wanting it as a module? Sure it's a few extra lines of code, but if you aren't using it, it's not like it is adding some excessive load time to your store.

Be happy that the developers are putting in so many great features even if you aren't taking advantage of them yourself. Feature packed open-source software draws more people who are willing to use a product and contribute to necessary research and bug testing of the features you are wanting. If you are satisfied with this package as is, don't update to any future versions. The bugs are well enough documented where you could sift through the update packages and find what was done to fix them and just implement that yourself. If not pay someone who can do it so you can stick with the outdated, feature lacking product, or like mentioned before, use oscommerce...

To the developers:
Great job with this package, I have turned several people on to it mainly because of how well structured the files are. This is by far the easiest to modify package I have tried and is a very light-weight solution. Keep up the good work and I can't wait for the 1.5 release!

Thanks for 1.5!
