Could not instantiate mail function

Hello,
I am getting the following error when processing an order on my POS website:
2020-07-24 16:41:52 - PHP Notice: Mailer Error: Could not instantiate mail function. in /var/www/html/system/library/mail.php on line 170
My web developer is back at work on Monday and I have access to my server via filezilla and to the mail.php file.
I got a reply from Anyhow Infosystems who make the extension and they stated the following:
As, supermax follows opencart default orders process so your order mail process works when any order place through supermax. Please resolve your mail process and it will work.

Is this an easy fix?

You are using phpmailer classes and simple php mail via that.
So apparently your web developer has been messing with your mail functions.

My webdeveloper was able to do it outside of hours so the problem has been sorted.
