Currently I am using mysql 5.6 using mysqli driver.
And want to know If I upgrade to MySQL 5.7, then i have to make any changes, is this opencart version 2.1.0.2 is compatible or break everything? Because opencart 2.1.0.2 launched in Jan 2016 and mysql 5.7 is launched in oct 2015.
Will I get any performance improvement by upgrading to mysql 5.7 from 5.6

You will NOT get any performance improvement, by changing to PHP v.5.7,
but you should better move up to PHP 7 anyway. And to make your Version
work with PHP7, you need to add one of those new system/library/encryption.php files:
