It might an issue with your custom search feature. You are right, it is taking too long. It might be getting many request or may be there is a problem with the query
Since you're using a custom theme, switch back to the default theme. Do you notice the same results on the search page? If not and only occurs while using the custom theme, contact the extension developer where you downloaded the extension to resolved this issue.
