oc_order_shipment table

While surfing the opencart database
I've found a table called oc_order_shipment
it's empty table but i guess it has a purpose
the columns in this table are
order_shipment_id, order_id, date_added, shipping_courier_id, tracking number
how to insert data into this from admin panel?
and how this table information are shown on front end
or it's just there for courier extensions and filled using API ? or what ?
