Hey guys. so, sometime recently a whole bunch of my 2,500 products have their descriptions repeated over and over.
See attached screen shot . . .
I guess I'll fix them one by one, but any theories what could have caused it?
I'm using Journal 2 and 2.3.0.2.
Thanks!

When you edit one of these products in admin, is the description text also repeated ? Or is it just the front-end?
Try the OpenCart default theme temporarily to see whether the same issue exists, if it doesn't then you'd know that Journal needs a fix.

Yep it's all there in Admin also - and when I export the products as a spreadsheet, it's there as well. Fortunately I have a clean export of all 2500 products from about a week ago (thank you JNeuhoff!) so repairing it will be minimally difficult but I'm pretty perplexed. I have been using essentially exactly this same setup for years - no new extensions or anything.
OK, well that would indicate it is not a theme problem, but rather when the product is saved it is appending the description to what already exists rather than replacing it.
This could mean a modification (vqmod or ocmod) is causing this, or the default core files have been modified.
To work out what is the cause, if you use vqmod and have any vqmod files that could be affecting the product edit pages, disable them (rename them from
?.xml to
?.xml_
Then clear the vqmod/vqcache folder
Likewise for OCMoD, visit your admin - Extensions - Modifications section and disable any modifications that may be editing the edit product pages. Then do a refresh of the modifications.
Next, edit a product and put the correct description. Then save and see if it fixes the problem.
If it does not fix the problem, you should re-upload the admin folder from the default download of opencart for your version.
Then test again.
If this fixes the problem, you will need to re-enable the modifications, one by one, refresh, test, repeat until the problem comes back again.
Likewise with the vqmod/xml files.
Once the problem is back, whichever modification or vqmod you last enabled, is most likely the cause of the problem. Contact the developer of the extension and get them to look in to correcting it.
