Please help

I was wondering, in my admin controller for a module, i'm trying to create, I was able to install my tables at the moment of activating, but if I want to save my own settings in my own tables, I'm not quite sure where I should do that, I took example on some default module, and they all use the model(settings/settings) which saves their settings, so should I do the same but with my own model and my own function that inserts? app development
