Hi,
I'm trying to make taxes display only in the cart, not in product pages or anywhere else. User login is irrelevant and so are zones: all customers will be in the UK. So all prices should display without VAT, only when you get to the cart should you see the VAT amount and total including VAT.
There is an answer to this but it's too old and doesn't work, here: viewtopic.php?t=27490
Any advice on where to find the code to replace/edit that would be great.

Have you set up a tax rate and used the tax rate in your products?

Very likely the issue
Disable that extension
clear modifications
check if it works without this extension
and contact the developer .. they should be able to fix that for you

OC 2.3
To Display Tax only in cart,
1. The product should be set as Taxable goods.
2. In the settings>option tab choose display price with tax to no
3. under the same option set any address so it can calculate tax, will also show for non loggedin customer as well in the cart.
4. If tax not showing up for non logged in customer, verify store address is set in settings>local tab
