I have looked at the article on setting up a multi-store however it only specifically mentions the ability to assign products to particular stores. What it doesn't go into is if the "owners" of the different stores can do this themselves. I don't want to do it for them. I want those that run the stores to take care of their own products, not me. I want them to have a login to their own store and nobody else's, manage, add, remove their own products, layouts, etc.

Can this be accomplished?

Thanks

One of the issues with those requests are features like these: https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... on_id=3151 . What will happened once another product / service owner wants to publicized his product to social media but the only option he would have would be to post from another domain and another social media account than his own (which is not possible)?

That may be a valid point. However with my stores, I don't think they would do that. My stores will use Catalog Only configuration as most of the stores have their own websites and/or they do advertise through Facebook, etc. The purpose of my site (or at least this portion of the site) is to give the visitors to the site a one stop view for good local vendors in the immediate area, coupled with community news, events, etc... So in short, most of these stores/shops have other already established means of advertising, this is just a platform to bring them all together in one easy to find place. So I don't think I will run into problems like that.

But if I interpret your response correctly, you are agreeing that what I want to do cannot be done with the out of the box OpenCart Multi-Store setup?

Thank you

That is correct. What you are looking for cannot be done out-of-the-box from the OC core. In addition to say, despite if a multimerch extension module is being offered to the public, social medias do not allow multimerch accounts to publicize other products than to the people being proprietary to them. For instance, API accounts provided by social medias are only provided to the proprietary users as individual accounts for websites and not for multiple accounts or domains as a reseller account. Which means, despite the extension module that is going to be used, still on this day, only one API account per domain is allowed from social medias which citizens can already upload their own products to the social media websites without the need or requirement of partnership / community websites.

Thanks for plugging us!

As others have pointed out, OpenCart's default multi-store system isn't really designed to run multiple independent stores under one umbrella - it's just a (clumsily-designed) system that lets you manage multiple individual stores.

MultiMerch with catalog mode enabled would work in your case, but you'll probably want to custom-code a few extras into it, like direct integrations with third party marketplace/ecommerce platforms.
