My client sells small personalised birthday treats. When you buy certain products you get some free sweets - http://www.bbbonbon.ie/confectionery

How can I simplify this? I don't have any ideas. I'm primarily a WordPress developer so not strong with OpenCart (though vqmod is the best thing ever!)
(I know that the site linked is on 1.5 - I am developing a 3.0 version so I will be applying suggestions to that version)

If you end up using OpenCart 2 or OpenCart 3, I have an Auto-Add Products to Cart extension that can do what you're looking for. You can set up the product to be added, and the triggering conditions (e.g. when Product A is added to the cart, it will also add Products B and C). You can choose whether the auto-added products are free or still cost their usual price, and you can choose whether they can be removed individually or must stay in the cart.

Feel free to take a look at the screenshots and demo site, and if you're interested let me know at www.getclearthinking.com/contact if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Is there a way to handle giving the customer a choice of free product?
There is 11 different options and they can choose 1.

Not with that extension, but I do have a different one called Free Gift Points. You could possibly adapt it for this purpose, by only making the trigger product have a reward points value, and the free gift products be the only ones purchasable with points. That would let customers choose a gift product based on the number of triggering products they added to the cart.

The only thing you might want to change would be applying unused reward points to the customer's account if they're not used. I can give you an edit to not do that if you want.

Also, note that this extension repurposes the reward points system, so you wouldn't be able to use that normally, if that's a priority.

You can contact me at the contact page for more info, or maybe someone else will have a different suggestion for you that would work.

Johnathan - Thanks for your replies. Food for thought.
We already use your Total Based Shipping module and it works great.

I will buy it too. Just need to confirm few things.
1. will it work on oc 3.0.3.1 with journal 3 ?
2. will it conflict with gift teaser that i will be continuing to use?
3. I would like to let customers to choose free samples of our products. We obviously do not sell samples. So i dont want to set up samples as regular products, because then i will have to set a price for them and also sell them.
Will this plugin work for me?
I was trying to figure out how to find the demo of your extension in your demo but doesnt seem to be there. Please advise.
Thank you!

1. Yes, all my extensions work on OpenCart 3.0.3.1. I think most of them work fine on Journal 3 as well, but that's so new I haven't had time to test it yet. If you do have issues you can always contact me for support, and I can almost always get it working.

2. It's hard to say whether it will conflict with another extension, so I can't say for sure. I try and code my extensions to be as self-contained as possible, so they generally play well with others, but it does depend on what files the other extension edits. Again, if you do have issues, I can take a look.

3. If you use Free Gift Points, unfortunately you have to create the free gifts as normal products (because it piggy-backs off the reward points system). If you don't assign those sample products to categories, though, then they can't be found other than through the search function. If you use something like Smart Search, then you can also hide those products in the search as well.

4. I think the demo works fine, but I don't have time to check it out right at the moment (I'm about to go out of town). If you can't figure it out in the next day or two, send me an e-mail using the contact form below, and I can look at as soon as possible

If you have any questions to discuss, feel free to contact me at www.getclearthinking.com/contact
