I am upgrading from 1.5 to 2.2 -- backed up database and files, uploaded everything from the upload folder except the config files, and now I am trying to install but it is giving me an "error undefined" popup.
I searched and found this may have to do with www or no www or http vs https but I'm pretty novice at this stuff and I'm not sure how to fix it. Can anyone advise? Site is currently broke as a joke.

I see posts like this referring to 'error undefined' in other areas, but not during the install process -- didn't seem like the fix would be the same here unless I'm not understanding correctly.
I admittedly only know enough to get by with this stuff so if I'm wrong, its possible -- if anyone can verify my specific situation and what to fix it would be greatly appreciated. I'd rather spend the time on fixing this than in backtracking to get the old store back up, but I also don't want to leave it down for too long here.

Try the commercial support forum. I've had clients try upgrading from 1.5 to 2 themselves and made a complete hashup of it. Their site is offline for days, they lose business and create lots of stress for themselves. A pro would have done that on time, on budget and helped pay his mortgage in the process.
