Hi guys,

I have a shop that's been running on 1.5.6.4 for the past 4 years. It's running smoothly without any major issues. I am running on the Journal theme so the website is responsive.

I need to create a new one for a new company I am starting. I am wondering if I should just stick to what I have that works, or make the push to v3.

My question to you guys would be:

- What feature has been added to OC since 1.5.6.4 that's groundbreaking? I honestly can't find one (I'm not a dev though), so am genuinely curious!
- What do you perceive as the biggest setback from 1.5.6.4 compared to the other version?
- Are there any know vulnerabilities for 1.5.6.4 that should push me to upgrade my current store?
- Does SEO work in a different manner in v3? I intend to purchase an addon for that, but wondering if something changed at the core that would be better suited for everything.
- (controversial question) I see the last release dates back from July 2017, yet many bugs were found and fixed in a future version not yet released (by browsing bug report forum). Has focus changed to the cloud version and the downloadable version become second in line?

Thanks

Phil

- What feature has been added to OC since 1.5.6.4 that's groundbreaking?

1. The overall Display responsivenes in the Front- and Back-Stage.
2. OcMod, something similar to VqMod, but not compatible, by default at least, is built-in now.
3. Upgraded Code, to match PHP Version 7.1.+
4. Re-arranged Sections and Files, to make it more Extension- +Theme-specific adaptable too.
5. Added some Admin Tools, formerly available as Mods only.
6. API (Application programming interface)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Applicati ... _interface
7. TWIG Theme Coding, instead of PHP, but it can be made to work 'em both, by use of an Extension:

8. e.t.c.

The lack of further found fixes, for business-political reasons, put into an official+final release.
Further 1.5.6.x Development stopped for good, to possibly not endanger a broad move to v.2.
And despite of the fact, that it's follower v.1.5.6.5 included a bunch of Fixes, still found after the
1.5.6.4 Release, it never passed the _release candidate status, but got hidden instead
from open 1.5.6.x public-view on Github, after a short while of beeing officially listed there, but this
later than the official OC v-2 Release, wich departed a couple of months before.

Yes, as you can see here:
https://github.com/opencart/opencart/bl ... angelog.md
it's about 25 Files, wich should be replaced, as I recall, to be a 1.5.6.5.

Well, most everybody else would sure like to know too. :D
But changing the Focus to Cloud is probably the best or even only way, to stay alive, in longer
terms. The web is full of crooks, one has to take this into consideration. As Fortune-Teller, my
answer would be, that free Dev Versions will further exist, similar to Magento Open Source. It
saves a lot of Time and Money and People, testing Code. And OC Fan's will still create new
Extensions, always helpful, because Professionals likely miss, to look at something from a
viewpoint of a User, not familiar with anything.

And a Pro Cloud Version will only be supplied to regularely paying users. And with the help of
i.E. Isenselabs, additional security measures will one day make sure, that stolen Code no
longer can find it's way into registered Versions, without at least informing Security, I assume. ::)

But who knows? I don't, it's just plain guessing, exept for some facts ... ;)

PS. But if you like to just make sure, and rather still wait a while, a nice Fellow,
called PEKU, created a complete Shop, and an OC-2 Theme only, looking + acting
just about like the latest Version Theme:
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... ember=peku
exept for the not theme+ocmod related Admin Sections. And it includes V-2 OcMod
wich can be disabled easy, by changing a few lines of Code, if it won't be used ! ;)

She looks like a woman, she walks like a woman, she talks like a woman,
but she works just like a real grown up Man... :)

Thanks for the thorough reply!

I looked up the RC and tried the PEKU build. Sadly I directly got an undefined error when setting up 2 languages for the store. I would definitely consider this if it worked!

Do you do custom work? If so, let's pm :)

Well, I don't, my Coder knowledge does not even meet my own requirements,
to act as supporter, I could only loose my face, as japonese people would say... :D
But this matter can be handled here, I assume, if you spare some facts about
this language related errors.
Good Luck!
