Will the module have the capability to calculate the ebay fee before it is post? I know when I use a listing prg for ebay it is a 2 step process for the listing . The first step checks the listing and if you add extras and shows what the fee would be then the 2nd step is the upload/confirm which means you are accepting everything.

Chad
Chad,

Good question. Yes it will have that verification step which will: A. Verify no errors with ebay. B. Tell you how much your about to spend... then you click submit a final time and and it goes live.

Also, a seperate verification step is available; under the preview tab, you will be able to preview the data entered to see how it will look in your template, this is separate from the above submission verfication.

One more thing, its going to have a shipping module built in so you can create shipment once an ebay item sells.

This one is a tad sticky, would (mostly) everyone be happy with usps and ups? I suppose there would always be the option of it not doing anything for shipments for you and you could take care of that part manually.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Thank you!

I think a shipping module might open a can of worms because every country use their own postal system. I think if you do this it would be after it has been out a while and I would make it an add on if possible.

Hey NoExtraTime,

Great mod, well done!! :) Would love to have this when you are finished with it!

So you will only support USPS and UPS for now? That leaves people in other countries a little in the dark, I am from Australia and would love it to work with the shippign modules I already have in my store. Or can it dynamically pull the available shipping methods based on your ebay country in?

I am looking into the best way to handle the shipping aspect for this exact reason, I DO want it to be able to serve folks however their OC store is setup, including different countries and their respective shipping methods.... I'm working on it!

Thank you all for your patience and ideas!

This is an awesome add on. I'd expect to pay about $15-$25 for this module. It depends how much support you want to give. If you get 100 requests for support on a $5 product, the development might start tasting a bit sour. Also, what kind of license (one-off, per site, per server etc).
When are you going to release this?

What I am really thinking is to start off at a low price, and iron out any bugs or feature gaps that will inevitably arise when users with varying needs start using it, and improve it as I get that needed feedback and really earn the right to charge more. I want to make sure that the value is there and that people are excited to throw down the asking price for what they'll be receiving.

I do want to give support, but I'm sure I will start out revolving it around a community forum for it, and I will answer/fix things as they come up. I've been watching this forum for a while, and I can / can't imagine how Daniel feels with the kind of stuff people throw at him (frustrations, features, needs, complaints, complaints, complaints....) so I can already look forward to how that will work.. :-\

I'm thinking a one-off, you buy it and its yours to use. I don't want to be too picky... I really just want to share this sucker, that's what I'm really interested in, I want to give to this community who has given to me. I just feel I am giving a lot with this extension so I want to ask for a comparatively trivial amount in return for what will really make every user more profit when they use this extension.

Thanks readyman!

BTW... ETA is approx 2-3 weeks till beta testing....

I wanted to point out, which may be obvious or expected, that this extension/mod will be pretty intense to install. With no formal extension api or anything, there are a lot of hacks on core files (M, V, & C)

I will of course be creating a heavy READ-ME-OR-ELSE.txt file so people CAN follow the directions and pull it off. I'm just saying that this thing has pretty serious functionality, so you can image what kind of hacks went into making it happen. However, I am fairly confident that the core files that this is changing, you would probably not have other changes already from other extensions, so for the most part this will be a drag and drop install and overwrite existing files and a few new ones and you'll be good to go...

I will also offer an installation service for this for the faint hearted and I'll get it all setup within 24 hrs or something for them...

Isn't it better to return the integration module to OC developers so that they can integrate if for future releases?
As with core hacking when we will need to upgrade to a new OC version we could expect stuff going wrong?

I am not sure if its *better*, but I agree with you that it could be an option. I think it would make good sense for many 3rd party developed extensions, however some 3rd party extensions wish to remain private 3rd pty maybe because the developer wishes to make profit or to keep the recognition as the developer for it.

That's not to mention whether Daniel or Q would even want to take in another feature like this. They already have a lot on their plate as it is. And again, this is where 3rd party devs come in, the OC devs make the big platform, and the 3rd pty devs extend it and maintain their own extensions.

Just the same with any other extension you have currently, when a new OC version comes out you should not upgrade unless/ until you know your implemented extensions are ready for the new version. No extension is upgrade proof even if it doesnt hack any core files even.

I will keep on top of new releases of OC to keep my extension up to date and working so you can upgrade as desired, but again, make sure your other extensions are ready for any upgrade as well.

hi there, this is really excited. But I have just one question about eBay integration, will it has the ebay checkout function. After people purchased products from eBay they will eventually go back to our website to pay.

thanks

The checkout will still take place on ebay like normal, so they will pay through paypal or whatever you have setup with ebay. From the ebay point of view, they will have no idea this is all being run from your OC store... Does that make sense? Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi there, the ebay checkout integration should work like this.

People search the products on ebay===>> choose what they like ===>>> click buy ===>> click confirm ===>> then instead of going to eBay check out place where it will show a list of products that customer are going to purchase from this seller, it will redirect that from eBay to our website check out page and then customer can choose the payment methods ===>>> after the customer paid for their goods they will be redirect to order confirmation on our website.

for this to work i think you need to get API code from eBay.
thanks

OK, I am chewing on this....... And believe me the eBay API is not the problem here, the built in checkout process within OC is based on its cart, and as items are added to the cart variables are storing the 'cart items', then when they arrive at OC checkout, the checkout system works with what's in the cart. But with eBay, no cart is being added to, so when the user gets kicked to OC checkout page, it will have to figure out who this person is and pull all the order details from eBay (yes through the api), including their paypal address, eBay item number, final price, shipping price as agreed/calculated in the auction, their shipping address, etc.

Here is one possible pitfall:

They bid on your foobar, and end up paying 19.99 for it when the auction ends, then they proceed with checkout, which all of a sudden takes them to an e-commerce site they didn't know existed, which happens to sell foobars, and actually foobars are only 12.00. They would most likely find a way out of their winning bid, and instead just buy it outright from you....

Any thoughts on this?

Josh

Dear Josh,

thanks for you reply. i think we share the same though on this ::) as this mind sound as a walk around from ebay, lucky this is not an ebay forums :D.

If you think about it, this actually make a lot of advantage for whoever are running website and selling on ebay. Doesn't matter if the customer want to buy it from our ebay store or from the website we still making a profit, and further more, we even make more profit on our website even when we are selling at the lower price. This mind sounds a bit like advertising but if a customer decided to buy "foobar" from our website instead of ebay, we have already save a lot of money. (ebay listing fee, ebay final fee, paypal fee etc...) and beside that, they acknowledge our website as a second "safe place" to buy from. hura!!! now we get more customers, no ebay fee, advertise from 1 to 10 and from 10 to million so easy :D

P/s: I'm really looking forwards to give it a shot when your addons done.
