I spent hours trying to figure out how to get the cart working with ie6. Not even oscommerce works with IE6. You may get a template looking good, but the cart just doesn't work. BOO! I decided to just let it go. If people don't upgrade their browsers from a 8 year old version, then their idiots!
look www.floristinboston.com is compatible with IE6 and Ie7 and Firefox everything. may be he can give us some hint.
There are a lot of misleading figures given about the numbers of folks using IE6. Reality is it shopped with XP and not many people moved up to Vista after all the problems it has. The figures suggest that as many as 1 in 6 folks could still be using it in some countries, which is a big chunk of anyones potential customers. Whilst I agree that new browsers offer more functionality, folks can't dictate to their customers what they should or should not be using, or you end up another Bill Gates type then.santolla wrote: If people don't upgrade their browsers from a 8 year old version, then their idiots!
I too would like to see a basic non tabbed template available. Nothing fancy, just like the current default but with the tabs out of the way in the header bar. I managed to get rid of the tabs and put the links in the header bar myself, but just ended up with a bunched up group of hyperlinks on the left hand side of the header bar. Where to go next with the coding to get those spread out along the header bar is currently beyond me.

The default tabbed design is ok, but if you want to deploy a full size backdrop, then the tabs stick into the design and just don't look right.
What would be cool if anyone with suitable knowledge in the community ever has the time, is a mini tutorial showing how to move some of those design elements around. Most of us are good with changing colours etc., but swapping things around it a bit more difficult to understand.
You're right there CUSTOM_UK... checked my site statistics a few months ago, and found 20% of IE users were still accessing the site through IE6! It's now dropped to 10-13% across 2 sites. I found this story about Intel still using IE6 and it began to make a twisted kind of sense. Corporate users seem to be the main IE6 users.CUSTOM_UK wrote: There are a lot of misleading figures given about the numbers of folks using IE6. I agree...the more tutorials the better.CUSTOM_UK wrote:What would be cool if anyone with suitable knowledge in the community ever has the time, is a mini tutorial showing how to move some of those design elements around. channelcommerce did a good basic no-tab template - slow loading page though:
http://www.channelcommerce.co.uk/opencart_themes.php
it says for 1.4.7: but should translate pretty well to 1.4.8 and later. I think only the checkout .tpl files changed in 1.4.8: not got my head around 1.4.9 .tpl files yet.
i am working on MIRAGE now. and its suppost to be very light template to load on server. and on the way to making compatible for ie6 even thu i blv 10% or less are still using IE6

Interestingly enough, being a former Zen Cart devotee, I did like the fact that virtually all the templates have remained usable throughout the Zen Cart evolution without need for modification.

The problem with IE6 users maansy, is that apart from the fact that a 10 percent loss of potential customers is still significant for any business, those IE6 users just might be the ones that are going to purchase items from a store's inventory.

True. That's why I invest 10% of my time to please those 10%
