Has anyone developed a mod that's I imagine is similar to the way the 'bulk discount' works in Open Cart, but based on time?
Example:
If you purchase a product 60 days before you need it, you pay $5.
But if you buy the same product 10 days before you need it, you pay $7.
I'm trying to think if there's a way to do this within the parameters of the default Open Cart system, but I don't believe it's possible. Any help would weclome. If it needs to be a custom modification, I'm open to a discussion on what it would cost to build.
Thanks!
Jen
Hi Jen,
I also do not think this is possible with the default system or any existing modification.
First of all, you would require your shipping module(s) to collect a "date required" value.
From your description, I understand that you want to modify the individual product prices based on shipping lead time rather than (say) modifying charges based on the order total. This will be technically quite difficult and hence, relatively expensive.
A simpler way to do this is to add one or more levels of "priority handling" charges to the order or the shipping cost, depending on the lead time given you by the "date required" value. You could make the "priority handling" charges a percentage of the subtotal of the order or a fixed scale of charges or a combination of both.
All of this is possible as a modification of the shipping module(s) you are already planning to use and/or as a custom charge on the order.
You can PM me if you want a quote.
cheers

Hi Bruce,
I just saw this reply now (for some reason I didn't get a notification you'd responded) -
This is excellent! I'll tinker with this tomorrow and see if I can make it work. In the future, when we're a bit bigger as a company, I'll approach you for help doing something maybe a bit snazzier! (Right now we're a bootstrap organization - so cost is an issue).
