I've installed and had a play with OpenCart to see what its functionality is like and I'm very impressed, so congratulations to the developers.
I run an online store for performance parts for japanese cars and currently use a bespoke solution which is functionally great for what I need, but not great in terms of SEO and easy to modify.
So, a couple of things I'd like to do:
1. Categories for my site would be similar to the following:
Mitsubishi -> Lancer -> Air Filters
Mitsubishi -> Lancer -> Brakes
Mitsubishi -> Lancer -> Styling
etc.
Mitsubishi -> Carisma -> Air Filters
Mitsubishi -> Carisma -> Brakes
Mitsubishi -> Carisma -> Styling
etc.
So basically, marque, vehicle, product across a range of different vehicle manufacturers and different products. What I'd like to do is have the Vehicle manufacturers' badges (which will be the category image) displayed as the menu on the home page, so customers can easily and quickly get straight to the section for their car.
I can see this working for the sub-category (vehicle), but can't see a way to get the top level category to display on the homepage.
Second issue is this: I have a big range of products that are classed as 'Universal' (fit any vehicle), so I'd like, for instance, Universal Air Filters to appear as products available under Mitsubishi -> Lancer -> Air Filters and also under Mitsubishi -> Carisma -> Air Filters (and every other vehicle for that matter) without having to add the products to each individual vehicle category.
I would also have a Universal category should anyone wish to browse products that weren't linked to a specific vehicle.
So... any pointers in the right direction?
