I'm a newbie to open cart but have plenty of computer science and development experience.
I'm planning a website and shopping cart for about 500 users per month and 5 products.
What sort of disk space will I need? I've got cpanel hosting with 5GB of SSD storage included. I'm planning to backup nightly to an offsite storage.
Appreciate any help and please let me know if you need additional information.

Don't worry, if you have 5GB on server space. Exept of, if you plan to add 500 Products, and each Product is connected with at least 4 Images, each sized 2+ MegaByte (some do! 
). Then, you possibly could run out of space one day, because of the cached Images, also requiring some space, the regular cache, as well as BUFFER-Space, required, if you i.E. import/export something, upload new images, and/or additional Themes, VqMod's, and so on.

Thanks a lot Ernie. So you're saying I don't have to worry and 5GB is sufficient add long as it's not more than 50 products with big images.
We'll have around 5 products and will keep an eye on image size. Thanks a lot for your help.
