Caption / Description for Additional Images

Hi all

Apologies if this has been raised elsewhere - I've searched and couldn't find it!

I'm looking for a mod to allow a Description to be added to additional images. For example, if you've got 5 additional images, it would be nice to provide a description as to what they are - rather than them have the default product's description.

Does anyone know if there is already a module for this or is it something that could be easily implemented?

I'm not aware of such a mod. It wouldn't be hard so much as a good bit of work to make all the database/front end/back end changes to implement it.

This is also something I would be interested in - it seems a bit of an oversight to not have captions for the additional images, which by implication are going to focus on particular aspects of the product, which can be better explained with an individual caption.

I can't see it being too complicated - as you say, extra fields will be required... my PHP knowledge is no where near up to that standard though unfortunately! Perhaps a forum moderator could move this topic to the Modules section and it could be considered for future releases.

I'm sure that there are many users who would find it useful - as suggested, additional images usually focus on specific areas of the product, or in my case, will show the various upgrades available in the Options section, so a caption would be extremely beneficial.

If anybody does have any ideas for a simple hack - perhaps utilising another field in the Admin control panel for now? it'd be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it might be a job for Q - but to assist him maybe we should define explicitly what we'd like. I'll get the ball rolling:

1) Additional fields on additional images:
1a) Short Caption (maybe call title) - to run alongside thumbnails
1b) Description - gives the full story when full image shown

2) Fields in 1) editable in Image tab of product admin panel. Obviously the same image may be used in multiple different contexts so the text will vary from context to context.

3) Define enough of a clear standard so that other modules that might leverage the additonal images (eg Q's jCarousel) can also get that the short caption to be displayed alongside the image in the selector.

Anything else that would be useful to add ?

You can ask Q if he'd be willing to develop a commercial mod. I really wouldn't expect him to do that much work/testing/support pro bono.

I'd be very interested in this too, certainly a Mod worth paying for!

Q has written a post on how to implement Fancybox rather than Thickbox, http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php ... box#p61915, perhaps that code code be modified to include an extra description?

I certainly don't know how to do it, but would be delighted to find out
