HI guys, I need a simple extension that will allow me to upload photos where OpenCart will retain the photo proportions and not add white space around the image (making it square).

I have already purchased two extensions for my Opencart that I was hoping would do this (simply and automatic) but unfortunately not, those being Image Manager Pro and Image Crop (note these extensions are good at what they do, they just don't do what I need).

Can anyone recommend me what extension will provide what I need (free or commercial), so when I upload any photo be it for products, categories, information or anywhere else that the system retains the ratio of all images without adding the white background space.

Cheers

you are fighting the wrong enemy, it's not the image uploader, it's the Built-on OC Image Processor,
what makes the images, as they come.

But depending on what you're up to, look here, the Product Images are called, and display, enlarged at least,
as the originally uploaded image, and in their original size and file Quality!
But regardless of this, to make sure, upload your images always by FTP, to keep FULL Quality Control!

Automatic Image Popup Sizer OC v.1.5 - 2.x:

Here is a Demo Page on such:

Just figured... ;)

Thanks for the reply.

Why is the image size not a standard feature of OC?

Using FTP to upload images is not useful as I need the images to be managed via the OC admin and not have to go in and out of FTP to add/remove images.

The demo doe snot appear to work with pop-ups going to a new window.

That said the extension linked does not do what I have requested, I don;t want it to display the images at original size but rather a set size maximum that then shows the image at is correct proportion/ratio.

Any other suggestions please ...

Images are always managed by the OC-Admin, an FTP Upload just makes it easier to upload possibly even Bulks of images, some even separated/sorted in individual Subdirectories, or how ever. If one tries to do this by Use of an Online Image Manager, regardless of the Brand, it will take Ages, ever repeating the same tasks. In Addition, OC Online Image Managers/Uploaders always use MUCHO MUCHO more Server Memory, to handle such Tasks. So, if you don't have at least 1 GB of free reserved RAM, better forget 1MB+ Multi Image Uploads in Masses. But you may try, and find out by Yourselfs... :D

BTW: If everything, in possibly fully enhanced form, would be PART of OC, you sure would have to PAY for it. ;) Just always remember such, before expecting more, for free, than you'll get. Someone has to make a living, otherways, it would not work. Just like in real Life... 8)

I am fully prepared to pay for the extension if one exists, I already have quite a few commercial ones.

Thanks for the detailed and technical response once again, however all that is need is a way to upload photos and for them to be able to be viewed is the same proportion they were uploaded to and not add the white space either side or top and bottom.

I understand that OC processes the images on upload and then in viewing them, so at some stage OC re-creates the images to the set size in the system settings, however what is wanted is a way for the longer side to be the max size set and the shorter side to be in proportion with the original image.

Just a few changes in system/library will give you want you want:

Resize the image to max width or height, keep proportion, no white space.

Install attached modification using Extensions - Installer, Refresh Extensions - Modifications and give it a try.

THANK YOU sooooo much :)

This should be a core addition to OpenCart with an option to use it or not ;)

Cheers
