Hi,

Assume I had problems with Opencart, and I wanted to install a fresh version. Can I do this without affecting the Categories, Products, Customers, Orders etc?

Thanks

Hi, art123. I don't see any responses to your question. I am really new to opencart. I tried doing exactly as you are asking about. Something on my site changed, and I couldn't find any of the categories. All I got was Page Not Found errors when I clicked on each category.

I made a backup of the whole folder (through my cpanel). I made a backup of the database. I then deleted the folder and uploaded OpenCart. I used the database as it was. I don't have any sales since I just set this up a couple of days ago. I found that the Manufacturers and Products images are held within two folders. Both are under IMAGES - CACHE and CATALOG. I haven't located the CATEGORIES yet but I suspect the images are also held in a folder. I ended up with no products, categories, or manufacturers after the reinstall.

The bad part is that I still get the same 404 Error - Page Not Found when I click on the Categories. I don't know where to get help. I haven't received any responses to my posts yet.....

art123,

You can normally install a fresh copy of OpenCart without it affecting the database, but in v2.1.0.1; it will either attempt update if your config.php files are not empty. If you are using v2.1.0.1; to be sure you can rename your config.php files (root & admin), create an empty database then install as a new install to that database. Afterwards, just replace your old config.php files and they will point to your original database and you will have a new install working on the original database. You would then delete the new database for you do not need it. This s one way...
