cannot seem to get modules installed

latest opencart,
standard theme,
latest vqmod installed (including doing the url.com/vqmod/install, got the installed message)
tried to install two modules, one for limiting text input size,
one 'better options' module,

I have messaged both, but as the issue seems to be the same, and its a sunday so not likely to hear anything i thought i would try your collective noggings, as its likely something simple i have missed.

Anyway, modules installed as per instructions, and show up (like better options in module list,, and installed)
But none of the options appear in the options menu, either main menu, or in individual items menu, and if i click on the better options edit (under modules) it says there is none options to start editing....

I must be missing something obvious!!

Most likely a VQmod issue, maybe its not automnatically creating the cached modified files? Check your VQmod error log.

logs folder empty,
there are two cashe files in the cashe folder, vq2_system_library_cart and _startup

I have checked file permissions, and deleted the cashe files (which vq mod recreated as expected) and tried uninstalling and reinstalling the modules, again, they seem like they are installed, but the options just dont appear!

I have a batch import/export extension added and that works fiiiine.... just the two vq mod ones dont seem to be playing ball...

gonna try a clean install,
is there any version of vq mod that i should go for? Or just try the latest again?
