Need help! Email Problems

Hi, i dunno what to dooo.. i have searched this forum about 10 times for email problems, i tried everthing that others tried i contacted my hosting company and they say that on there side everything is ok.
My problem is that if someone contacts me thru the contact form or i send an email to my customers the systems doesnt send them.

Im on opencart 1.4
my hosting is linux based, business plan
hosting company is byethost


Please help me out

What settings do you need to know? im not a guru in this, the script is set to mail function and not smtp, i am using google apps for the mail so that means that i have set up my mx entries on the server correctly. I know that my hosting company is running linux servers and that phpmail is active and pear too.
What other than that? Im running version 1.4 translated in italian.

the problems are:

I cannot send mails to my customers
The contact form sends mail but no mail is delivered
