Hi there,

I´ve read much posts with missing tables, altered tables, changed config files and so on.
But i dont get my Shop completely working. I think something was missing, something i didnt found in the forum.

Can someone post a complete Summary what to do, to Update 2.0.3.1 to 2.1.0.1 ?
All added/changed/deleted Tables, all New/Changed/deleted Rows/Entry to settings-table,
all config.php changes and so on.

I´ll thank you very much

Wanna know, what to do?
Just install a virgin v.2.1.0.x, then, get an extension, or a separate Tool, to upgrade your existing DB to the latest Version, and then, empty/replace the sample-content of the VIRGIN DB with the Content of the upgraded v.2.1.0.1 DB, and everything will function. The OC Extension Section is full of Mod's, just waiting, to be bought. Some even come for free, as I found out, if one is able, to play around a little.

But don't expect, to find an UPGRADE Information, able to just do the Job, for ALL older Versions, and ALL the MOD's, and THEMES, possibly installed in those Shops, regardless of anything, even down to the DB-Prefix...

If you know, what I'm trying to tell you ::)

Nothing personal, you just seem to expect too much!(and possibly even for free)

so, that update path should work.
but is it normal to had to buy mods to update the shop for a minor update?

im speaking from a standard shop, just edited with own written mods, all code and database is like original.
i dont expect a wonder or that other people do the work for me. i can edit the database und edit code myself if necessary

in the other topics people write about added tables, new columns, added entrys, new config parameters.
But no central point to collect all that information.

is it too much to get a "what to do if u want to update" for a minor update?

When downloading your Shop Software, for free, and without any obligations, you
accepted the fact, that the Software Supplier also takes no obligation, to support
you in any way.

Opencart bases on a Business Model, in the first Place. It's not a loose Arrangement of
Freaks, just trying to show off, and working for free, to make others rich and famous.

Everything else comes for free! Or better, it came for free, even in Masses, for the older
Version Models. But this will not longer be the case, when a new Version arrives, for some time,
at least. It's like everything else, in the real World, all those trying to keep ahead of the Pack,
likely pay more, to get, and have, the Feeling at least, a while, to belong to the First.

Look at it from the Viewpoint of a Businessman, or Woman. Would you give away your knowledge,
for free, as long as you can make money, and pay your Bills, by keeping, and selling, this knowledge?
If you would, then, you will never make it, whatever you do...

Nothing personal, just plain Business Talk, from Man to Man ;)

PLUS, OC v.1.5.6 knows about 3'000 Extensions, ranging from minor Mod's to full Themes, POS-Functions,
Whatever, among uncounted Languages. WHO SHOULD BE ABLE, to create an Update Tool, beeing aware of all this,
and possibly able to handle all of them, especially those, adding to/handling custom DB-Sections+Content ?
And all this...., for free !?
It's just IMPOSSIBLE.

But, take it or leave it, the Forum is already full with postings, by those, trying it out, even on Live Shops
I call it attempted Business Suicide, but, after all, Who cares... , just a few less possible future Competitors :P

With all due respect....
OC is an open source project - is it not?

I have no expectation of an upgrade process that upgrades everything including all modules, extensions and misc code.

I DO have what I consider to be a reasonable expectation, that a basic upgrade process should be available and properly functional for the core system. Just as Joomla system operates, a basic upgrade process that updates to the latest version of the core CMS and the user runs the risk that add-on modules and extensions that are not part of the core, may not function.

I have a new OC 2.0.3.1 site that is ready to open to the public and I now see the new 2.1.0.1 version.
I have no 3rd party extensions or modules, only the basic core OC system.
Why is there no simple-basic upgrade feature that can upgrade the from the previous version without all the bugs and problems being discussed???
Why am I expected to REBUILD a brand new website with all my products every time a security fix/upgrade is released?? Just to avoid OC's failure to have a simple, basic bug free upgrade process of their core system??

If you have 2.0.3.1 and it is working for you, I see no need to upgrade 2.1.0.1 (which still has bugs being reported and fixed on gitHub) at this time. Maybe wait for 2.1.0.2 which may even have a working upgrade feature when it arrives

I am also interested on how to make a minor release upgrade, without building a new shop from the base, and adding all content to the newer shop.

E.g. Wordpress has a one click update system, TYPO3 uses symlinks to link to new versions. How bout OpenCart?

@uksitebuilder thanks for the reply, so i´ll wait for further versions.

@ravbrat u meet my opionion
i expect no support for my mods, for my personal problems, my wishes and so on.
cause as u said, it is free.

All Advanced Support and advanced mods are possible, but for cash, thats business, and its good.
I´ve bought some mods and i´ll paid for it, to honor the work of the developers.
I´m not one of the people like "take all and give nothing".

but i expect information what to do, to update a minor version.
I expect just the information, no fully automatic update process or something else.
I´ll can add tables, columns, configs myself, if i know which ;)

if you expect any update information, just get it on:
https://github.com/opencart/
it's all there, waiting to be checked.

Do you have any "inside" info about that you are saying about the upgrade feature ??

Thanks

Most Opencart versions are easy to upgrade but I think they're making so many changes to the 2.x versions that it's just plain hard to upgrade. It is not impossible though.

Sure, Wordpress has the automatic upgrade feature but that software has a ton of other issues...... Not always great to compare to their platform.
