Hi,

I started a thread in the General Support board but my issue seems to have turned into a bug problem.

The original thread is here http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php?f=190&t=150535 but after what I've just done I think it might be better on this board?
I created a brand new sub domain and installed OC again, completely fresh.

The default theme looked fine. I copied the default theme folder and renamed it. I uploaded it and then selected the new theme name in the Store settings. NO changes had been made to the new theme, it was still effectively the default theme.

I added the store info in settings. I deleted the Demo images folder. I added some products.

That is all I did but the information pages and category pages stopped working.

I tried to backtrack and see if there was something else I had done. I realised I had installed OC using the Softalicious installer in cPanel. So I set up another new sub domain and installed OC manually.

The default shop looked fine and all the pages etc. work correctly. So I started making changes and checked the site after every one.
  • Added images to the slider
Uploaded new image folders via ftp
    Added logos to the carousel
    Added the Latest module
Added some store info, including logo etc.
    Changed the footer text
    Added categories
    Installed Vqmod
Added the mod 'Selected information pages, links in top menu-Many combinations'
Added some info pages to the main menu
Added Lorum text to the information pages
Created a new info page called News
Added Lorum text to the category pages
    Deleted the Demo images folder
All without a problem. I did not create a new theme folder this time and I made no stylesheet changes. Then I added a dummy product....

Now the info pages in the footer menu display the homepage and not the content, and so does the About page. News, specials & contact seem to be working ok.

What on earth is causing this? ???
Thank you :)

1. Your subdomain URL does not work.
2. And as you wrote:
--
I copied the default theme folder and renamed it. I uploaded it and then selected the new theme name in the Store settings. NO changes had been made to the new theme, it was still effectively the default theme.
--
But it was NOT placed, to be found as DEFAULT THEME, since you gave it another Name, possibly, it still contains SOMETHING, somewhere, seeking some content within the DEFAULT Theme Section, to function, obviously unable to find it any longer, to act accordingly. I recall similar effects, when trying to just RENAME some THEMES, on a v.1.5.6.x Test Version, but finding out, that it does not work, this way, just like that, in/with some (mostly more comprehensive) Themes!

just to give you an idea...
good Luck

The same problem exists on another site http://silver1.farmgearcms.co.uk/news-and-offers

On here I have now deleted the mod 'Selected information pages, links in top menu-Many combinations' but the issue remains on there :(

I don't know, what your'e doing, but it looks like an incorrectly linking, combined with some SEO Linking,
but it's impossible to find out, from the Outside. Switch back to the PRE-SEO-Setup, then, at least, one has a slight chance, to find out better, where you got mixed up.

This time the sub domain is http://silver-2.farmgearcms.co.uk/

I wanted to get info pages in the top menu, which is why I had installed the Mod 'Selected information pages, links in top menu-Many combinations' before. I did NOT install it this time.

Instead I installed the Journal 2 theme as this gives lots of menu options.

I've made some changes and added some menus. Then I added the Latest module to the home page. The dummy products show up and there is a quick view pop-up. If you click on more details, i.e. to see the product page itself, the url changes to the product page one but the layout is the Home Page!!!!

And the information pages and category pages are the home page too now.

I've got 22 sites to build for a client and this is now a major problem :(

In the OC settings the Product layout is set to Product, see attached. And the other layouts are correct too.

And as IP_CAM suggested I turned off SEO urls and all of a sudden the site works :o

But the urls are horrible and no use at all.

Ok, so having established it was an SEO url problem, I did some more research only to discover the solution is almost too simple to believe.

My .htaccess files were still called .htaccess.txt :o

Thanks again IP_CAM for pointing me in the right direction ;D
