I have been running 1.5.3.x for over a year, and now we would like to upgrade to 1.5.6.4.
Is it workable if I just copy the database from 1.5.3.x to a new database, install a fresh copy of 1.5.6.4 and go from there?

In case the question is still relevant - here is an alterantive solution.
If you'd like to migrate safe and quicky - you can create the OpenCart 1.5.6.4 (or any newer version) beforehand, and then transfer data to it via Cart2Cart, automatically. It'll save you lots of time and efforts.
