Trying to get SEO to work by installing HtAccess file

My hosting company tell me that their linux system does not suport the following 2 lines in the HtAccess file
Options +FollowSymlinks

# Prevent Directoy listing
Options -Indexes
Can I rewite these somehow. I googled them so have an idea what they do but .... leaving them in gives me a 500 error. Is there a different way to enable the followsymlinks ?

Is there a later version of the HTaccess file that will work ?

Opencart v 1,5.5.1
Template from template monster installed
VQMod installed with some mods all of which work fine

Please help - thank you

1. Change the Hoster, it's of no use, this way, believe me ! :(
2. I want it too, where did you get Opencart v 5.1.1 ?
Good Luck

Have to agree, if your hosting company doesn't support those lines in .htaccess then it indicates they've either bolted Apache down to be exceptionally basic or not running a standard Apache set up.

Changing hosting not possible - can't believe that there isn't another solution & oh slipped up on numbers as was clearly thinking too much about the problem. 1.5.5.1 - 5.1.1. - think the point was the problem & hoping ya'll realised the schoolboy error on the version !! HA HA HA !!

You can put a # before the Options FollowSymLinks

For the other, it is strange that your hosting company doesn't support that.

Still no solution to this :(

Code: Select all

Options +FollowSymlinks

# Prevent Directoy listing
Options -Indexes
Options - Indexes not too much of a problem - guessing my hosting co have stopped people from indexing files somehow with another solution

but the +FollowSymlinks - it wont work without that !! - totally stuck !

No other solutions ??
