just finalising the last few things before i start to take my shop idea (selling cleaning supplies from my home) to the next level and one is knowing how shipping is typically done. i have seen my competitors use weight based delivery up to the ordering totalling £60 then it's free for slow delivery method.
i was wondering how do companies work out the cost of delivery? do companies usually use royal mail or is an alternative like dpd, dhl etc used and then they take cost of delivery from them?
do delivery companies charge more based on distance of the delivery or are they like royal mail where all uk mainland deliveries are same price?
as we haven't got an office is it standard for the shop owner to have to deliver the items for delivery to a warehouse or do they come pick it up from me then delivery to the address? i assume the first option as until we get established we may just have 2/3 deliveries a week, which seems pointless for the delivery company to keep coming just to collect one package.
any other tips for getting delivery right is appreciated.
