Thank you for taking the time to reply Ernie.
>> there seems to be something slightly wrong in the admin config <<
Why are you so sure about this?
I'm not, it is my theory, and I am sure that anyone who knows the code better will be able to correct me if I am wrong. Obviously (to me anyway) if everything was configured correctly, surely the transaction would pass back to the admin and show? I have no idea what is broken or what is wrongly configured. Perhaps someone with more knowledge would have a far better idea knowing how the data is passed along, why the checkout process is returning back to the store (with the error), recording the transaction in the payments section of the store, but not the order.
And why do you feel disppointed?
I feel disappointed that in the time that this post has been floating around the forum, there have been no takers who have been willing to help me get a step further. This is a live website and I have let a customer down, and have nowhere else to turn: One of the pitfalls of using an open-source system, however, when I was involved with CubeCart, the community forums were much more constructive, topics were pretty much always answered, I can see that isn't the case here, there is a different calliber of contributors, and for the benefit of using the software, this is something that I have no choice but to live with.
Did you check about this on Google
Google was the first place I looked, the search results have not provided me with anything that appears to match my problem, hence the reason why I needed to ask for help in the forums. Not only did I try Google, but I also waded through 94 pages of Payments topics, and used the forum search. I also looked through Paypal's community forums as well, to no avail. Indeed, I have invested many hours looking for a solution which I have not yet found. It is interesting that when I paste the search term you suggest, this topic comes up straight away, right at the top - Have you tried looking at the search results Google is giving?:
One of the problems with searching for something is that you don't always know what you are searching for, and you may not always find something that could be otherwise right in front of you. Google is very clever to a point, people are far cleverer!
You did not supply sufficient information to assist you in a short, efficient way, like, i.E., did you correctly place and activate the return-link to your shop in your PP.com Account Admin Section? I never used it yet, but I have been reading about this, somewhere...
I supplied all the information that I thought was relevant at the time. As the Paypal checkout process returns to the store, I assume that the return link is active, however, being the first suggestion I have as to what could be wrong, I shall contact me customer and verify this. I am very appreciative for this suggestion.
Ernie, I am very aware of how forums work, I have been a contributor of many other forums in past years, and I greatly appreciate any and all help that people can contribute.
