Change top menu categories with one click

Hi all,

I searched in google and here but nothing. I use Opencart Version 1.5.6.4. I have three buttons on my theme and want to change from them the top menu categories. The idea is, when click on them to change the categories in top menu. The buttons will be like categories and in the top menu subcategories.
For top menu, I use Super Mega Menu v2.3 and want to use all functions. For this reason, i don't want to change the plugin. The theme automatically resize itself depending on screen resolution.
So the best way, i think but note sure, is to sellect all categories to be added in top menu, but to hide some of them with click on the three buttons which already mention.
Please, give me an advice, how to do this.
