[Solved]1.4.0 unable to add products from the admin page

I am having a problem adding products using the admin page/tool. When trying to save the product, screen blinks as if has refreshed, but the product was not saved. Accessing the Admin page from a remote computer I could see an error message is being displayed before the screen is refreshed. Something about the product name needs to be greater than 3 characters and less than 255. (Product name entered is 5 characters) It is difficult to catch the exact error. Anyone have ideas where to start ? I verified that OC has access to the database with user granted all. (The store list all the default products). OC 1.4 default install on a CentOS 5.4 with xampp for Linux (lampp) distribution 7.1.3a with the following versions of Apache 2.2.14, MySQL 5.1.41, PHP 5.3.1, Perl 5.10.1, phpMyAdmin 3.2.4, and OpenSSL 0.9.8I.

You should enter a "* Product Name:" and a " Model " (found at data tab). if you do not enter either one of this you will get an error like the below

" Product Model must be greater than 3 and less than 24 characters! "

I did enter the appropriate length product name and model several times. I believe the issue is with the version of PHP I'm using is not compatible with OC 1.4. I will try an older version and see if this clears up the issue.

Well. I don't think that would be the issue because I'm on the latest version of PHP. Make sure your PHP settings are set to default. and try downloading a fresh version of the software. ( use WAMP and run on loacal host, XAMP has a few issues.)

Check if the German language is still in: Configuration -> International -> Languages.

If so, remove it.

ah this issues caught me out too,

to resolve log into your admin section then choose --> System -> Localisation -> Languages
then uninstall the German language just leaving english. (assuming you want english) then save.

Problem resolved.

Thanks deleting the German language fixed 2 problems I've chasing been around for several days and had me pulling my hair out.

It fixed the "can't add products" problem and it also fixed a problem I had with Hompage140 where I couldn't add entries to homepage.
