Not allowing 2 different product categories in the same cart

My company gives away free products. We would like to know if it's possible with some extension so if people got a product in their cart from the 'free' category they can't put any other paid products in their cart. And the same goes for if they have any normal products in their cart that they can't put any products in it from the free category.
