OpenCart Europa package has been created for use by businesses based in Europe or intending to operate in or sell to the European market. This version, comes with preinstalled languages and currencies for most European countries.

It includes most European languages and currencies from which the shop owner can choose the one(s) to use. Additionally, there are a bunch of other tweaks that make life easier for Europe-centric businesses.

The biggest benefit of this package is for newcomers to OpenCart, i.e. for new installations. There are benefits to those who upgrade from older versions of OpenCart to OpenCart Europa 1.5.4.1 as well, but the benefits in case of fresh install are more.

Currencies

OpenCart Europa includes most European currencies.

Pound Sterling, US Dollar, Euro, Bulgarian Lev, Czech Koruna, Danish Krone, Latvian Lat, Lithuanian Litas, Norwegian Krone, Polish złoty, Romanian new leu, Russian Ruble, Serbian Dinar, Ukrainian Hryvna, Hungarian Forint, Swedish krona, Swiss franc, Belarusian ruble, Macedonian denar, Icelandic króna, Turkish lira, Albanian lek, Bosnia and Herzegovina convertible mark

ISO codes: GBP, USD, EUR, BGN, CZK, DKK, LVL, LTL, NOK, PLN, RON, RUB, RSD, UAH, HUF, SEK, CHF, BYR, MKD, ISK, TRY, ALL, BAM

Languages

OpenCart Europa includes translations in most European languages.

Please note that not all of the included languages are available for the Admin Panel. Below is the list of available languages.

Shopfront Languages
Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian

Admin Panel Languages
Catalan, Czech, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian

Language pack props

OpenCart Europa incorporates OpenSource work of many translators. Details of the included translations are below.

Please note that not all languages are up to date. Sometimes translators stop translating or move language packs from OpenSource to Commercial. I have tried to include the latest OpenSource versions of the translations.

The impact of older translations is effectively a partial translation. Where a particular phrase or sentence is not available for a particular language, OpenCart falls back on English. So please do not uninstall English!

Occasionally, you might see field names (e.g. text_shopping_cart, etc) instead of actual phrases or sentences in some parts of the shop. This usually means that the relevant file is not available for that particular language and hence OpenCart has trouble falling back to English. Please report any such occurance at http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php?f=117&t=83998

Following are the language packs included.
Note: Version numbers below are as reported by authors/translators.
  • Bulgarian for OpenCart 1.5.2.1 by pavlin_nikolchev
  • Catalan for OpenCart 1.5.4.1 by Jaume Bosch
  • Croatian for OpenCart 1.5.1.3 by galuzzi
  • Czech for OpenCart 1.5.4 by salab
  • Danish for OpenCart 1.5.0.5 by chokk
  • Dutch for OpenCart 1.5.4 by i2Paq
  • Better English for OpenCart 1.5.4.1 by OC2PS
  • Estonian for OpenCart 1.5.1.3 by deffex
  • Finnish for OpenCart 1.5.3.1 by Jushi85
  • French for OpenCart 1.5.3.1 by LeorLindel
  • German for OpenCart 1.5.4.1 by a.tangemann
  • Greek for OpenCart 1.5.2.1 by tsopis
  • Hungarian for OpenCart 1.5.4.1 by OC2PS
  • Italian for OpenCart 1.5.2.1 by madimar
  • Latvian for OpenCart 1.5.0.5 by Heks
  • Lithuanian for OpenCart 1.5.1.3 by radvis
  • Norwegian for OpenCart 1.5.0.4 by kim-r
  • Polish for OpenCart 1.5.1.1 by kardasz
  • Portuguese for OpenCart 1.5.3.1 by ceptron
  • Romanian for OpenCart 1.5.1.2 by REpho
  • Russian for OpenCart 1.5.1.3 by rb
  • Serbian for OpenCart 1.5.0.5 by tehnicki
  • Slovak for OpenCart 1.4.7 by fander
  • Slovenian for OpenCart 1.5.2.1 by silverseven
  • Spanish for OpenCart 1.5.4.1 by rowend
  • Swedish for OpenCart 1.5.2.1 by snights
  • Turkish for OpenCart 1.5.4.1 by eka7a
  • Ukrainian for OpenCart 1.5.0 by Shaman
And more...

Countries

OpenCart has, among the list of countries, one called Yugoslavia, which doesn't exist anymore. At the same time, the country of Serbia is absent.

OpenCart Europa fixes that. Yugoslavia is removed, Serbia is added.

Zones (States/Regions/Counties)

A couple of fixes here:
  • For most European countries, in OpenCart Europa the names of the regions are now in native language, e.g. Regions of Bulgaria, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, and Serbia are in Cryllic script.
  • For Latvia, OpenCart Europa removes the anachronistic administratīvais rajons.
  • For Hungary, OpenCart Europa removes the cities from the dropdown of counties (megyek).
  • For a couple of European countries, OpenCart original package is missing a county or two. This has been fixed in OpenCart Europa.
Database translations

While most of the language fields are static, there are certain things that are a part of the database, and hence are not included in language packs.

These include units of length, units of weight, stock statuses, order statuses, reason for return, return status, return action, voucher theme name, and titles of information pages. OpenCart Europa already includes these translations.

If you come across a field from list that could be translated better, please post your suggestion at http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php?f=117&t=84000

Geo zones

Geo Zones are OpenCart's way of lumping together territories with the purpose of assigning taxes, shipping or billing information.

OpenCart Europa comes with following pre-built geo-zones:
  • 1 per European country, so that VAT may be appropriately assigned.
  • EU shipping zone, for use with carriers that might provide preferential EU shipping rates.
  • Rest of the world international shipping zone which may be used to assign common shipping rates for non-EU countries.
VAT

OpenCart Europa comes with VAT rates for European countries.

Please note, however, that:
  1. VAT rates change over time. You should ensure that the rates in your shop are correct.
  2. OpenCart Europa comes with top VAT rates for each European country. However, there are usually multiple VAT rates within each country. If you sell a product that uses a different rate, you need to add that.
  3. OpenCart Europa comes with a single VAT rate per European country. However, occasionally there are more sales taxes than just national VAT. In such cases you will have to adjust the geo zones and rates accordingly.
vQmod

OpenCart Europa comes prepackaged with vQmod - the easiest way to customize OpenCart.

Rich Snippets markup

Product pages in OpenCart Europa contain rich snippet markup based on schema.org (if you use Default theme). This could possibly put your shop head & shoulders above competition in search results. Achieved via http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... on_id=6485 included prepackaged.

Dummy data

OpenCart original comes with a bunch of dummy data for products, categories etc. In our experience, it is time consuming and wasteful to delete these dummy data.

OpenCart Europa does not create dummy categories, products, options, attributes, etc.

That said, OpenCart Europa does include the slideshows that come in the original package, as this provides shop-owners good examples to follow.

Other nifty, little things Enjoy! If you'd like to donate, please PayPal to top-mba@gmx.com

Trying to install Opencart europe 1.5.4.1

But i get this after agreeing to the terms when installing:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /butikk/install/index.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I have set the permissions according to the install.txt that came with the installation.

You need to check your file/folder permissions again. This is clearly a permissions issue.

Hi,

We are currently on 1.4.7 with a custom theme. Tried to upgrade using the scripts available however it didn't work too well with our theme.

Subsquently we are looking at starting a fresh on a new opencart. We were looking at possibly having foriegn languages so we can sell in europe easier. I have installed your Opencart Europa and all went swimmingly. However it appears we have to translate the product description ourselves, and with a product ranage of approixmately 1000 products, translating into 4 or 5 languages will be quite a task.

Do you recommend or know of a module that will work in tandem with your OC, which will translate all of our product descriptions when the customer selects their respective flag/language?

Kind regards,

Jonathan

I am not aware of such a module. Since Google have unfortunately deprecated their free Translate API, I doubt that there will be a module for this anytime soon as most such modules for other scripts used Google's API.

Hello,

today i find you modified version of open cart. Did you add also a module to fix the outstanding "legal" terms for EU
like "EU cookie" and legal terms for EU countries, Impressum etc ?

Did you work on a new version (based on latest OpenCart 1.5.5.x) too ??

best regards,
Harald

No. Not sure what the issues are. I could include in next version if you let me know.

Not yet, sorry. I'll only be able to release a new version sometime in September.

The Cookie "issue" is only there when you use Cookies to track visitors.

A core/default OpenCart uses no cookies to track visitors so there is no EU "issue".

The "Impressum" (a German thing) is the same as the Contact page, as I understand.

Make sure that you have all your owner information on your contact page an you are in the clear.

Like the Cookie thing, this is not directly related to OpenCart.

I see that the cookie thing are note direct open cart but i see that it is possible to use a add on for this
but if it is possible that you can impant it in the EU Version it is great. opencart track cookies or not ?

Okay "Impressum" are a german thing but germany are EU too ;) so i think if it is possible to add this it is better for
EU version and all to handle opencart without modification in one package.

It is a good thing to use open cart more in EU!

Currently i install plain version and i would like to make "language" change from EN to DE but it is only possibel to do that inside the backend (admin) on front side i see only "EN as default" not switch that the user can change "DE / EN etc."

Hope you can help too...... but by the way installation goes without error !! I see that many people has problems.

I think that OpenCart Europa should stay as is: a default OpenCart with additional languages.

OpenCart Europa is not a fork.

Seems you are using wrong settings for German. The German language package has different naming convention than other packages. Please see install instructions to find the correct settings.

There's nothing to see. No module, no panel. Nothing. It is a completely background process that allows some mods to work without changing core files.

Is this package currently under development ? Or no longer in use?

If yes anyone implement the german localisation package from Andreas Tangemann ?
