Product import from CSV

I know there are a number of developers creating modules that takes care of this, but this seems to be such an essential feature, should it be part of the core functionality?

I'm using a custom export/import tool to xls. The downside is that it uses alot of memory particulary when exporting product database and it is not possible to use it on my production site.
So definitely - it will be a nice to have feature in the core !
