Can anyone explain the difference between the two?
- I know tags show up at the bottom of product page and they show items if I use the tag in my search box
- I heard keywords are used by search engines
If the above is correct, can my tags and keywords be the same "per product" as they are going to be looked at by both my site and search engine in two different ways?
Or do my keywords have to be different to my tags?
Tags used in OpenCart are simply words - They are not META Tags. If they appear on a page Google et al will index that page and those tags and users searching for a phrase that contains that tag may find your site.
META Keywords is a META tag, as is META Decription and META Title
META Keywords pretty much died out with the major search engines 20 years ago
Content of your pages is King, human readable, keyword rich content is what you should conecntrate your efforts on.

I think I will duplicate my tags to the meta keywords just in case they are used somewhere.
I say that because let's say search engines don't use them, but why would a new version of OC2.0 or even 1.5 have them included as a feature/option. *confusednewbie*
Total e-commerce newbie bravely testing OC v2.0.3.1 before rolling it live...getting there slowly, somehow. Maybe not. I dunno.
There was a rumour that if you do use them (META Keywords) then they must appear in your page content somewhere or you may get penalised.
