I am new to this - so I apologize if this is a terribly stupid question. :-(

I would like to change the url's of my pages to something simpler.
Currently I have addresses like:
http://aerialessentials.com/index.php?r ... ry&path=73

Can I shorten that down? Make it something easier? I would like to send clients links that make sense. These look like a lot of jumble currently.

Let me know what you think.
I appreciate all your help.
Thanks!

Yes you can. First you will want to ensure that the .htaccess.txt in the root of your folder root is renamed to .htaccess (you may already have a .htaccess , you would want to rename it to .htaccess.old or something).

And then go into System > Settings > Server > and turn on SEO URLS.

Each information page / category / product (etc) will have a 'SEO Keyword' under the data tab, this should be a unique value and controls what the URL will be.

There are extensions on the marketplace that improve on this functionality but that's the base of it.

Thank you so much. That is VERY helpful.
I have my products and catagories looking the way they should now.
BUT-
My information pages (catatog>information) still show up in long form addresses.
I have changed their SEO keywords, and applied the changes - but they still load wrong.

Example:
http://aerialessentials.com/index.php?r ... tion_id=10
Should be:
http://aerialessentials.com/Testimonials

Any help would be Greatly appreciated!

It could be a caching issue of some kind, delete the files inside system/cache

Did you edit the SEO Keyword on those information pages too ?

I know you said you did it for products and categories, but didn't see you say you did it for info pages.

Yes I did.
It seems very straight forward and easy to edit the SEO for all the pages on our site - but it doesn't seem to change the URL for anything outside of Categories and Products.

The only thing I can think of as to why this is not working for your footer links is that they may be hardcoded in the footer.tpl file
