Pointing domain to subfolder

We have OC installed in a subfolder and want to point the main domain to the subfolder invisibly to the visitor.
I found a few posts with some confusing info, so hoping to get some help with an easy few steps to do this.

I found a post that says to:

1. Edit the .htaccess and change the domain, www.mydomain.com/subfolder to www.mydomain.com and upload it.

That cannot be it, can it? wouldn't a config file need to be changed and any settings in OC admin?

Change ReWrite Base / to ReWrite Base /subfolder/

Your config files should point to the domain and not mention the subfolder in the HTTP and HTTPS sections. The subfolder will remain the DIR section for the file paths.
