Hi,

I've searched this forum for a solution to the following, but didn't find a solution yet that seems to cover the following:

I'm adding a poster category to my webshop. A single poster costs 6.50 Euro, but you'll get 3 for 15.00 Euro. I've seen modules that can handle this.

Here's where it gets more complicated: the posters are shipped in a cardboard tube which can hold up to 9 posters. So regardless whether someone buy 1 poster, or 3, or 5, or 9 (which is the maximum per tube) the shipping rate stays the same. E.g: Order 1 poster = 1 tube = 6.00 Euro in shipping. Order 9 posters = 1 tube = 6.00 Euro in shipping. I guess the cart should look at the total number of posters as it should be possible to order multiple copies of 1 poster as well as different posters (E.g: 1 x poster X, 2 x poster Y, 3 x poster Z = a total of 6 posters = 2 x 15.00 Euro = 30.00 Euro + 6.00 Euro for shipping = a total of 36.00 Euro). So instead of having shipping costs per product, there's a shipping costs per total of 9 products from that category. I'm sure I'm not the first to encounter this, so I'm curious how others have solved this.

Thanks!

Jonathan

For the shipping, if all your products are posters, you could use Item-Based Shipping for this. You'd enter brackets like this:

From: 1, To: 9, Charge: 6.00
From: 10, To: 18, Charge: 12.00
etc.

If you have other categories with different shipping rates, and you need them all combined together, you could use Category-Based Shipping. It includes quantity criteria, so you can create that setup for posters, and other formula rates for your other categories.

Will this look at the total of posters (a total of different products), or at the total per poster (3 x poster Y)?

As for the discount: is there a way to do this category based? So that you'll be discounted on every third product from the same category?

And then obviously combine the two: category based discount + the correct shipping charge.

1. If you need different shipping based on categories, look at Category-Based Shipping.

2. If you need category-based discounts, take a look at Category-Based Fee/Discount. However, note that it's an Order Total extension, so its discounts won't appear until the criteria are met, and they'll show up as a line item on the order. The only thing in OpenCart that can affect the price display is a Special or Discount price in the product data.

Thanks! Would these be different modules to be installed separately, or is there one (larger) modulepackage that can do it all? I'm currently using product-based shipping for my other categories. Can product-based shipping and category-based shipping run together in the same webshop when applicable to different products? Will both show up in the totals per order?

Cheers,

Jonathan

Product-Based Shipping is essentially the same, so you can use it for your shipping needs. You can run both shipping extensions at the same time, but you don't need them both.

Category-Based Fee/Discount is an Order Total extension, which are separate from Shipping extensions. You'd need to have that since it's not related to the shipping system.

Feel free to take a look at the screenshots and demo site, and if you're interested let me know at www.getclearthinking.com/contact if you have any further questions.
