I have several products in my catalog that are bought by the foot, however the shipping is the same regardless of the length purchased. These are foam window seal that weighs next to nothing. The box we pack it in is heavier than the product itself. The problem arises when someone tries to buy 3 feet, it multiplies the shipping by 3 instead of it staying the same as when a person buys 1 foot. How can I make this work?

I'm running version 1.5.6.4

Yeah we sell gasket in a store and ran into same problem. This is a fundamental limitation with the OC options system. They lack a multiplier for making things like length. If you get options boost module you can make a length dropdown and do progressive hundred percent multipliers up to like 50 feet or so. So 10 feet would be an 1100% multiplier.

Other than that you could just guestimate shipping into product price then call it free shipping, people like free shipping :D But then again, this is another fundamental limitation of OC, there is no free shipping (since "no shipping" takes away ship address in cart). There is a mod for this somewhere, by setting weight to 0 it allows true free shipping.

Oh. Mah. Gawd. OC needs modernized options before we can say "magento is junk" -- must look at itself on the most basic level and be able to sell things besides jewelry and tshirts. Cant even properly sell a simple piece of rope nor offer item based free shipping "out of the box"?? ....hopefully this is amended in 2.0 since its such a large version change.

How do you charge shipping? It sounds like either you use weight based shipping and the product weight is affecting the charge, or you use quantity-based shipping and the quantity of the product is affecting the charge. I probably have a shipping extension that could work for you, but it depends on how you're calculating your shipping.

I use flat rate shipping together with free shipping, if goods bought over a certain amount.
i modified flat rate (copied module several times) so it can be assigned to multiple shipping zones ie holland belgium germany etc each with their own shipping charge.

Shipping cost is fixed regardless off numbers bought
